COVID-19 Virus

April 1, 2021 COVID-19 Update

As COVID-19 vaccines become more widely available and as the State of Utah plans to lift the Statewide Mask Mandate on April 10, 2021, we think now is a good time to update you on our plans.

The health of you and our employees are always our top priority in every decision we make. The following are current plans we’re working on.

#1.  Many studies show the current COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective in keeping individuals healthy. We think the vaccines are vital in ending the pandemic and we’ll do everything possible to help each of our employees get their vaccine.

#2. While there may always be some risk, vaccinations only work when the majority of citizens comply. We encourage our members to also get vaccinated.

#3. Mask Mandate will continue at National JACL Credit Union.

No date has been set for the lobby to open, we will continue to monitor the situation and make a decision based on the safety of our members and staff. There has been uncertainty over the past year. However, we are encouraged with the progress of the vaccinations and are encouraged by the current outlook of getting our economy back on track. We don’t have all the answers yet but we’re flexible and will take all necessary measures to keep you and our employees safe!

November 24, 2020 COVID-19 Update

We’re still seeing increasing numbers of Covid-19 cases. We continue to keep our lobbies closed as we can do most of our business over the phone, online and at our drive-up window. We are also following Utah Governor Herbert’s guidance in order to keep businesses open and keep employees and members safe.

We also urge all of you to do your part by following Governor Herbert’s latest guidance which includes:

  1. Protect others and yourself by wearing a mask. There is a statewide mask mandate.
  2. Limitation on public gatherings.
  3. See all restrictions at https://www.slc.gov/mayor/covid-19/

You can review the entire order here.

October 14, 2020 COVID-19 Update

We were all hoping to have the Pandemic under control by now but, unfortunately, we’re seeing record cases in the Salt Lake City area so we’ve decided to continue to error on the side of caution and keep our lobby closed.

We’ve been able to continue serving our members over the phone, on the website and through the drive-up window. We are still adding new services like the eTranz Account and the Smart Value Loan. Please check back for possible changes in the future.

July  9, 2020 COVID-19 Update

We have recently been seeing an increase in Coronavirus cases and things are now getting worse rather than better in Salt Lake County. Just yesterday the Governor announced that he’ll be requiring masks to be worn by students and teachers when school reopens this fall. There are definitely some areas in Utah that aren’t yet adversely affected by the virus. However, it’s a different story in Salt Lake City.

With cases rising, there is currently a county-wide mandate requiring masks to be worn at public gatherings, indoor or outdoor, where social distancing is not possible. Also while waiting outside or inside retail or other public locations, including bars and restaurants until you’re seated.

For now, the Credit Union has been able to operate effectively over the phone, electronically and through the drive-up window. We plan to continue this until we see the number of cases drop substantially in Salt Lake County.

We know this may be a bit inconvenient for our members. However, we prefer to error on the side of caution. We’ll keep you updated.

May 7, 2020 COVID-19 Update

The Coronavirus has brought unprecedented times and we feel now is a time to error on the side of extreme caution. National JACL Credit Union is carefully considering our options and preparing to safely open at the appropriate time. The following are the steps and precautions we’re planning when we do open.

  1. We will limit the number of members entering the office.
  2. We will provide social distancing floor decals to help staff and members maintain a distance of at minimum 6 feet.
  3. We will require a temperature health check for all staff before they start work.
  4. Our employees will be encouraged to wear a mask while at the office.
  5. Members will be encouraged to wear a mask when inside the office. (When wearing a mask, visual identity verification will be required before entering)
  6. We will continue to segregate our employees into two groups to prevent spreading the virus between employees.
  7. We will provide hand sanitizer at each desk and for members upon entering and leaving the office.
  8. All offices will be fully sanitized between each and every member visit. (Sanitation will include the use of UV-C light wands).
  9. Employees will sanitize their hands between each and every member visit.
  10. All common touch surfaces such as door knobs and handles will be wiped down between each member visit.

Before we officially reopen our lobby, please call us and we will do everything possible to serve you over the phone and at the drive-up. We can set up appointments for you to access your Safe Deposit box  when  necessary.

Thanks for your consideration and please keep yourself safe from the virus.

Latest Update

April 6, 2020

Dear Member,

We continue to think of you and all our members during the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).  We want you to know that we’re not going anywhere because, at its core, our Credit Union is not a building or a business, it’s people unified for a common goal of financial well-being.

We’re always here for you.

These are difficult times for everyone, and we know that some of your biggest payments are due soon.  If you’ve been economically impacted by this pandemic and are concerned about your bills, our staff is dedicated to working with and helping you through these uncertain times. Now, more than ever, we are here to support our members.

Government action that may impact you.

The CARES Act was recently signed into law and includes several provisions aimed at helping Americans stay engaged in the economy through the month of April and help you with your bills. Here are some highlights that may directly impact you:

Stimulus payments:  Most Americans are eligible to receive a stimulus payment from the government in the next few weeks. These payments are based on your most recent tax filing. Members who are receiving Social Security retirement and disability payments will also receive a stimulus payment. To learn more about these payments and to see if you’re eligible, click here.

Unemployment Payments:  If you file for unemployment benefits, you can expect an extra $600 per week on top of your normal unemployment benefit for the next 4 months as a result of the CARES Act. The unemployment benefit time period has been increased to 39 weeks.

Business Owners:

For our members who own businesses, the government has developed the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). A program for companies with less than 500 employees to receive a loan at a very low rate of 1% with no payments for 6 months and will be forgiven if certain circumstances are met. Meaning you will not have to pay the loan back! The government will pay the loan off.

Your Credit Union has the ability to process this loan for you now.  Visit our website for more information and the application or click on this link and fill out the application and send it to us.  https://www.sba.gov/sites/default/files/2020-04/PPP%20Borrower%20Application%20Form.pdf

We’re ready if you need any additional assistance.

If you want to learn more about COVID-19, visit the CDC’s resource center or your state’s health department website. Please take care of yourself and those around you and do not hesitate to contact us for any assistance. www.jaclcu.com  801-424-5225 or 800-544-8828.

March 19, 2020

Dear Members,

I want to personally let you know the National JACL Credit Union values and is concerned for your health and welfare at this critical time.  We hope you are all safe from the COVID-19 virus while taking precautions to keep your families protected.  Your Credit Union is doing what we can as well, closely monitoring and taking all recommendations from our State, Local and Federal Governments as well as the CDC https://www.cdc.gov/ and WHO https://www.who.int/ to clean and keep a safe distance to ensure the spread of this virus is stopped.

Because we want to ensure our members and staff’s health and safety are protected, we are temporarily closing our lobby for walk-in service.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.  We have been preparing for something like this and feel we are still ready to serve your needs.

Access to your account can be accommodated in many ways.

  • Our Website https://www.jaclcu.com/ allows you to apply for a loan and log into our E-Teller system.
  • E-Teller accesses your account to have a check sent to you, transfer funds, check your balance and history, make loan payments, and even get you to our Bill-Pay system that ensures all your bills are paid on-time through your Credit Union account.
  • The Mobile App can be downloaded on any iOS or Android platform which allows you to access and transact everything that E-Teller can do. Plus, our new Venmo Deposit is now active.
  • Shared Branching has over 5000 branches that you may utilize. Use this website to find one close to you https://sharedbranching.org/.
  • ATMs are available through the PLUS and ACCEL networks.
  • Of course, you can still call us on the phone. 801-424-5225 or 800-544-8828.

The Credit Union will remain open through this dynamic situation, we just won’t be able to handle your transactions face-to-face.  We will continue to keep our drive-up service open and, as a reminder, our drive-up hours are:  Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Mountain Time and Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Mountain Time.

For members who need access to your Safe Deposit Box, please call to make an appointment and we will accommodate entry at that time.

If you have been financially affected by this pandemic, your Credit Union understands and is willing to help as much as we can.  We vow and will try to help each of you to ease any financial pain you may be experiencing.  Please call us and we’ll see where we can help with the variety of options at our disposal.

Lastly, during times like these it seems to bring out many scams and fraudsters.  We recommend that you be aware and suspicious of deals too good to be true or people preying on the fears we may have.  Do your homework and double check the identity or validity of people asking for donations and watch out for Malware and Phishing schemes when opening e-mails.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time and wish you all the best to keep safe and healthy.  We will keep you updated to let you know when we return to our regular lobby process.

Sincerely,

Dean Hirabayashi
